Enterprise Software Development

We build the systems that are too specific to buy. The engineering standard is the one we would want to inherit: meaningful test coverage, documented decisions, deployable by anyone on the team, and no dependency on the people who wrote it.

What's included

What this engagement covers

  • Custom business applications

Line-of-business systems built around how your organisation actually operates, where configuring a package would mean distorting the process to fit it.

  • Platform and API development

Backend platforms, service architectures and public or partner APIs designed for versioning, throughput and a long operational life.

  • System integration

Connecting ERP, CRM, finance and operational systems so data moves reliably and reconciliation stops being a monthly project.

  • Web and mobile front ends

Accessible, fast interfaces built on a design system, tested against real assistive technology rather than an automated checker alone.

  • Application rescue

Taking over a project that has stalled — stabilise, get it under test, establish a release cadence, then resume feature work.

  • Quality engineering

Test strategy, automation frameworks and CI pipelines, either as part of a build or as a standalone engagement on your existing codebase.

Process

How we build

Written down so you can hold us to it.

  1. Discovery and shaping

Two to four weeks understanding the domain and shaping scope into something deliverable. We write down what we are not building as carefully as what we are.

  2. Architecture and walking skeleton

A thin end-to-end slice deployed to a real environment in the first fortnight, so the pipeline, environments and integration points are proven before feature work scales up.

  3. Iterative delivery

Two-week iterations, each ending with working software in a live environment. Priorities are reviewed every iteration and you can change them.

  4. Hardening

Performance testing, security review, accessibility audit and operational readiness — planned as work, not discovered as a delay before launch.

  5. Launch and handover

Phased release, documentation, runbooks and paired support until your team is comfortable operating and extending it.

Outcomes

Engineering standards we hold

  • Automated tests running in CI from the first week, not retrofitted
  • Architecture decision records explaining why, not just what
  • Every environment reproducible from code
  • WCAG 2.2 AA verified with assistive technology, not only automated tools
  • Security review and dependency scanning in the pipeline
  • Full source, documentation and IP transferred to you — always

Questions

What people ask about this service

Including the ones with answers you might not want.

Who owns the code?
You do, without qualification. Source, documentation, infrastructure definitions and IP transfer to you, and we do not retain licences or reuse rights over work you paid for. It is in every contract we sign.
Fixed price or time and materials?
Both, depending on how well the problem is understood. Well-defined scope with stable requirements suits fixed price. Genuine discovery work does not, and fixed-pricing it usually produces either padded estimates or a change-order argument. We will tell you which one your project is.
What happens when we want to take it in-house?
That is the intended end state. We document as we go, and towards the end of an engagement we deliberately move your engineers to the keyboard while ours move to review. A clean handover is the deliverable, not a lost account.
Can you take over an existing codebase?
Yes. We start with a two-week assessment covering test coverage, dependency health, security posture and architecture, then propose a stabilisation plan before any feature work. Inheriting a codebase without that assessment is how a rescue becomes a second failure.
