IT Consulting

Advisory work is only worth what it changes. We do assessments that produce decisions, architecture that survives contact with a delivery team, and roadmaps sequenced by dependency and risk rather than by wishful quarter. Every engagement is led by someone who has personally shipped the kind of system under discussion.

What's included

What this engagement covers

  • Technology assessment

A structured review of architecture, delivery practice, infrastructure cost and operational risk, ending in a prioritised findings register with owners and effort estimates.

  • Architecture and design review

Independent review of a proposed or in-flight design, stress-tested against scale, failure modes, cost and the team that has to operate it.

  • Modernisation roadmap

A sequenced plan that ties each phase to a business outcome, with the dependencies and decision points made explicit rather than buried.

  • Vendor and platform selection

Requirements definition, structured evaluation against weighted criteria, reference checks and commercial review. We hold no reseller agreements, so the recommendation carries no margin for us.

  • Delivery assurance

Independent oversight of a major programme — schedule realism, quality signals, risk surfacing — reporting to the sponsor rather than to the delivery team.

  • Fractional technical leadership

A principal engineer or interim CTO embedded part-time to hold architectural direction while you recruit permanently.

Process

How we engage

Written down so you can hold us to it.

  1. Scoping conversation

Ninety minutes with the people who own the problem. We leave with a written problem statement, or we tell you the engagement is not worth running.

  2. Discovery

Interviews, code and infrastructure review, cost analysis and data gathering. We talk to the engineers doing the work, not only to management.

  3. Findings and options

A working session presenting what we found and two or three viable paths, each with honest cost, risk and time implications — including the option of doing nothing.

  4. Recommendation

A written recommendation with a sequenced plan, effort estimates, and the assumptions it depends on stated plainly so they can be challenged.

  5. Execution support

Optional. We can stand up the delivery team, embed alongside yours, or hand over and step away entirely. All three are normal outcomes.

Outcomes

What you receive

  • A prioritised findings register with severity, effort and named owners
  • Target-state architecture with the reasoning behind each decision recorded
  • A phased roadmap sequenced by dependency and risk, costed by phase
  • Total cost of ownership modelling for each option considered
  • A risk register with mitigations and early-warning indicators
  • An executive briefing your board can act on without translation

Questions

What people ask about this service

Including the ones with answers you might not want.

Do you resell the platforms you recommend?
No. We hold no reseller or referral agreements with cloud or software vendors. When we recommend a platform, our revenue is identical whichever one you choose — which is the only structure under which vendor selection advice is worth anything.
Will you tell us something we do not want to hear?
Frequently. Assessments that conclude everything is fine are rarely worth commissioning. We have recommended that clients cancel in-flight programmes, keep systems they were planning to replace, and delay migrations by a year. The recommendation follows the evidence.
Can you deliver what you recommend?
Yes, and we are explicit about the conflict that creates. Findings are presented with options that include doing nothing and using another partner. If we scope delivery work, it is priced separately and you are free to take the roadmap elsewhere.
How senior are the people who actually do the work?
The person in the scoping call is on the engagement. We do not run a model where partners sell and juniors deliver — engagement teams are small, senior and named in the proposal.
